The next meeting is on the 13th of September and somewhere in the wilds of Blagdon at Coombe Lodge. It'll be a sort-of late summer barbeque/film showing. For further info please e-mail Phil or Richard. |

..saw an extraordinary meeting with Adam Knight of AV3 Software flooring us all with Get Phonetic Software. There was also Simon Walker with a live shoot 'n' edit on his iPhone 4 and we launched the weFCPug Crumplepop Summer Competition. Oh, and Phil had the final word on vuvuzelas. |

Nobody seems to like those vuvuzelas so Richard did his best to get rid of them using Soundtrack Pro. First with the noise removal filters and then using the spectrum display to delate tell-tale signs. The result certainly lessened the noise they make but, unfortunately, lessened everything else as well. Can't wait for the BBC's Red Button! And we're not the only ones working on it: http://isophonics.net/content/whats-all-about-vuvuzela.
And whilst doing that he had to use the two blade controls (B and BB) and then went on to demonstrate the "comedy" tools: T and its five variations and G and its three variations. Check them out!
Phil showed us a short movie about AVID 5. Mmm... that'll be AVID's take on FCP then!
And we also had a look at a pretty cool camera tracking system brought along by Nick Wilcox-Brown:
The portable dolly system was from http://www.glidetrack.com - I use the SD model for DSLR
shooting, but they also make far longer and more substantial options for everything up to full
movie cameras with add-ons. Prices are sensible and options are flexible.
Although my model is only 50cm long, used carefully with foreground detail it provides a great
'look' with minimal setup / maximum portability. The units will take any standard, flat base tripod
head and there is an option on the XD model of providing a 100mm bowl for professional video
heads.
When questioned about the weight bearing capabilities of the middle (HD) version, I was told:
" If you put the HD on the floor, you can stand on the carriage"
A good example of its use can be seen in this video used with kind permision from John De Rienzo Films:
